Can Bard Take on ChatGPT in the AI Chatbot Race?

Have you heard of the latest AI chatbot sensation? The tech world is buzzing with excitement over ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot created by OpenAI with funding from Microsoft. However, Google is not willing to surrender its search dominance and has announced its own chatbot, Bard, which is set to be released soon globally!

In a blog post by Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, he revealed that Bard is already available to a select group of trusted testers and is designed to bring the “breadth of the world’s knowledge” to a conversational interface. This chatbot is based on a smaller version of the AI model, LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications), which was announced by Google back in May of this year. Google believes that this will allow them to gather feedback from more users and address any challenges regarding the quality and accuracy of the chatbot’s responses.

While both Google and OpenAI are building their bots on text generation software, it has its challenges. Chatbots can quickly spread false information and repeat negative language found online. Solving these issues and updating the chatbots with new information will be a challenge in creating unique and effective products using this technology.

Are you curious about Google’s plans for integrating Bard into their search box that drives Google’s profits?

Well, hold onto your hats,

Interestingly, Sundar Pichai did not mention any plans to integrate Bard into the search box. Instead, he demonstrated a novel and cautious use of the underlying AI technology to enhance traditional search. Google will synthesize a response that reflects the varying opinions for questions with no clear answer.

For example,

the query “Is it easier to learn the piano or the guitar?” would be met with “Some say the piano is easier to learn due to the natural finger and hand movements, while others argue that the guitar is easier to learn with its chords.”

Google intends to provide developers with access to the core technology through an API, similar to how OpenAI made ChatGPT available, but the exact timeline remains uncertain.

The rise of ChatGPT has sparked rumors that Google may finally be facing a formidable threat to its long-standing supremacy in web search. This has got to be particularly vexing for some of Google’s AI experts, considering they helped develop the technology behind ChatGPT.

Despite this, Google has taken a cautious approach when it comes to incorporating the technology behind LaMDA into its products, as AI models trained on text from the web can exhibit racial and gender biases and repeat hateful language.

Some AI experts warn of the limitations of chatbots, such as the inability to understand the information they serve up and a tendency to fabricate information. This may be particularly concerning to some of Google’s AI experts as the company was involved in the development of the technology behind ChatGPT. However, Google has been cautious in incorporating the AI technology behind LaMDA because of the risk of the AI system producing false information, showing prejudice based on race and gender, and repeating offensive language. The advent of ChatGPT has inspired Google to speed up its timeline for incorporating text-generation capabilities into its products.
